We said, “I Do”.

I’ll never forget the first time I saw him. I was only 14 years old, and still in Jr. High School. But the moment I looked up at the dashing 18 year-old cowboy, he took my breath away.

Of course, some may say it was only a reaction to my female hormones. But there was something special about that moment of attraction. And after 48 years of marriage, the birth of three sons, and eight grandchildren…I believe God had a plan for us to walk through life together.

Yesterday, I received a message concerning our eldest granddaughter. My son says she and her special young man are making plans for the future. My first response was based on concern for the struggle they will face: emotional conflict, financial pressure, etc. But as I sit here, after 48 years of marriage, I must say… “follow your heart and trust God”.

The man I love was never perfect, but then, neither am I. He was handsome, charming, and brave, but certainly not a character you’d read about in a romance novel. When our personalities clashed, and the pressures of life threatened to tear us apart, I must confess, there were times we could barely stand to be in the same room together. But God never gave up on us, and thankfully, HE kept us together.

I could go on, and on,as I revile in my romantic memories. But what’s more important, is my prayer for the younger generation, especially our eight grandchildren. May you all trust God to give you the perfect partner. If you listen to your heart, it may be God telling you, “Don’t be afraid.I have a plan.”

Be Blessed, Donna
