I love Christmas! Even before I became a Christian, I sensed there was something special about that time of year, and I don’t mean because of presents.
When I was a little girl, my parents never went to church, so they didn’t teach me about the baby who was born in Bethlehem, “wrapped in swaddling clothes” (Luke 2:12). At home, we didn’t sing songs about angels who brought “good tidings of great joy”. But there was something different about the way our parents acted toward each other.
I always looked forward to visiting our grandparents, and spending time with cousins. My aunt invited everyone for a Christmas Dinner. And during that time, we shared the joy of being a family.
Now that I’m older, and have a family of my own, I try to share the love and joy of Christmas. Even when we can’t afford expensive presents, I love to fill the house with decorations, music, and plenty of good food. I try to create lasting memories for my children and grandchildren. But most of all, I try to remind them about the love of God. “For God so loved the world that He sent His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
I pray, you will find joy this Christmas. It does not come in the packages placed beneath your tree, but in the Christ child who came to save the world.
Be Blessed, Donna
