Blessed are the Meek

This morning, I read Matthew 5:5: “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.”
I have read this passage many times during my years of Bible Study, but it caused me to ponder the word “Meek”. I wanted a mental image to help me understand God’s meaning.

Webster says the definition of “Meek” includes: “1. enduring injury with patience and without resentment”. I must admit, I have failed in that area of my life experiences. So, I found an image of a dove; winging to freedom. Now that is something I prefer.

Imagine a gentle creature who is wounded by a predator: a hawk or an eagle. (Those birds are often used as symbols of strength). But what of the humble dove, unable to defend itself from injury. God says, “the meek will inherit the earth”. Oh, I like that. After injury comes healing, and victory over the past.

I hope you will find your image of victory. May God give you encouragement, and peace.

Be blessed, Donna
